After many months of effort, we’re so excited to roll out the brand new FaeriesDance.com! The list of new features is impressive and we hope you’ll appreciate them. Here’s what’s new:
- Filterable search:
- Search our bras for your specific cup and band size.
- Narrow results of any product by price, manufacturer or fabric material.
- More images per product.
- Product certification images (GOTS, OEKO-TEX, Fair Trade, etc.) on the product pages.
- Newest products listed right on the homepage.
- Flexible Gift Cards that you can e-mail or print at home.
- Easy, one page checkout.
- Checkout without creating an account (although the Wishlist and Gift Card features do require an account).
- More payment options including AmEx and Paypal!
In addition to all these great features, there were a few we just didn’t have time to get in. Over the coming months, we’ll be adding even more options as part of continuing site improvement. There’s even an expanded customer service area and FAQ so you can quickly and easily get answers to your questions.
There is one major policy change. We will no longer refund shipping charges on returns. To offset this, we are looking into offering a slower, first class shipping option. Unfortunately, that requires the weight of every one of our (1100) products. So it will be a little while before we can get that implemented.
As with any new software, there are sure to be little issues here and there that we’ve missed. If you find something that’s not working or seems “wonky” as it were, please don’t hesitate to contact us and let us know.
Thank you so much for your patronage through the years. We’ve launched this new website on the 11 year anniversary of our original opening date (July 22, 2005). It’s only with awesome customers like you that we were able to do this.
If you’ve followed us for any length of time, you’ll know that we almost never put intimates on sale. So this a fantastic opportunity to stock up and score a win for organic, fair trade underwear.
Why are we doing it? Well, for the last few months, Pants to Poverty
, one of our all-time favorite organic panty manufacturers, hasn’t been responding to my inquiries. Combined with the fact that most of their UK-based website items were on clearance, I figured they’d gone the way of Perfectly Imperfect, Ciel and Love Nature and were out of business.
Then last week, I got a call from Ben Ramsden himself, Pants to Poverty’s founder. They’ve been in India working directly with their farmers and developing a new “3-dimensional accounting model.” This 3D accounting model tracks the profit and loss of the business not just in financial terms, but also in social and environmental terms. We’d already spotlighted Pants to Poverty
in our Fair-Trade Fashion Round Up
as a leader in the Fair Trade Fashion movement. Now this revolutionary accounting idea has propelled them to nomination for 2014’s Global Leadership Award in Sustainable Apparel
, which is a pretty BIG deal for a small company.
In order to implement this new 3D accounting model, they’re streamlining their offerings quite a bit. They’ve come out with a series of their most popular styles in 4 consistent colors across both their men’s and women’s line. They’ve also up-sized the women’s panties, stating that customer feedback has suggested they were sized too small compared with conventional brands.
I’m truly thrilled to bring in these new undies. Along with the organic panties we’re currently manufacturing, our customers will soon have a wider selection and awesome choices of styles and colors.
To facilitate going hog wild on this new order, we need a little working capital. Hence putting the entire (now mostly discontinued) current line of Pants to Poverty Undies
on sale for the next 3 weeks – from Earth Day to World Fair Trade day, you can get 15% off everything we have left. Just use coupon code Pants
We’re going “live”! If you live around the Portland, OR area, come visit Faerie’s Dance – along with other sustainable companies – at the Better Living Show on March 29 and 30 at the Portland Expo Center. Admission is FREE. Take a moment to touch and feel some of the wonderful fabrics we’ve been writing about lately.
We’ll be part of the Semper Fashion Eco-Fashion Show and you’ll have the opportunity to see several of our styles on the runway. There’s a changing room, so you can try things on, too.
If there’s something you’ve been wanting to check out, let us know in advance and we’ll be sure to bring it.
This is our first expo in Portland, and I’m pretty excited about it. I look forward to meeting some of you in person.
Wow, for the second year in a row, FaeriesDance.com has earned a Top Ten spot (out of more than 5000 eligible businesses) for Green America’s People’s Choice Award for Green Business of the Year. YOU made it happen by sending in boatloads of nominations, and we can’t thank you enough. Our small business can only thrive by the support of our fabulous customers and friends.
We have a second chance to win this prestigious award and get some much coveted press. Please take one more minute and vote for us now that we’ve made it to the final 10. And please, please, spread the word about FaeriesDance.com. Your support is so appreciated!
Last year we were so excited to be in the top 10 nominee’s for Green America’s Green Business of the Year Award. While we didn’t win, the recognition and added business exposure just from the nomination were immensely helpful and appreciated. We’ve decided to throw our (organic cotton) hats into the mix and see if we can get into the top 10 nominees again for a chance to win Green Business of the Year for 2011.
We may be a small business, but we’re big on green initiatives, and we’re still trying to help everyone “go green right down to their skivvies.” This year, we’re particularly proud of adding Cottonique to our line up of lingerie brands to help people with chemically sensitivities. We’ve also been recognized by both MCS America as an apparel resource and by Alicia Silverstone in her blog The Kind Life.
So please, please follow the nomination link to fill out a very short survey. Use Faerie’s Dance as our business name and FaeriesDance.com as our business location. Tell your friends as well – Facebook, tweet or e-mail them – every vote counts.
Thank you! Your support is greatly appreciated. 🙂

We did it! With the support of our customers, family and friends, Faerie’s Dance got enough nominations to make it into the Top Ten Nominees for the People’s Choice Award for Green Business of the Year
! I can’t tell you how excited I am that our small business has gotten this level of recognition! Thank you all so much for your support.

We opened our virtual doors on July 22, 2005. Since July 22 will be our 5 year anniversary, we’ve put 22 products on sale this month. Some of them are limited inventory. So if we sell out of anything before the 22nd, we’ll add more to keep 22 choices through the end of the month.
The very first day we were opened, one of my good friends made a surprise purchase. I remember how exciting it was to actually see our first sale that morning. We had one more sale for the rest of July, but that second one was a “real” sale – to someone we didn’t know. We followed up that first week with $577 in product sales for the entire month of August. Even though that didn’t cover our expenses, the joy of being “found” on the internet was definitely there.
Since then, Faerie’s Dance has survived a divorce (losing its database admin and primary coder) and the worst economic crisis of a generation. We’ve become one of the largest retailers of organic bras and intimates in the United States.
Sadly, 6 of our manufacturers have closed their doors in the last 2 years and we have a lot of stunning styles that we can no longer replenish. So here’s your opportunity to get fabulous, first run items at great discounts, like the Soy T at the top left and one of our best sellers, the Anthology Cardigan on the right.
Happy Anniversary to us all and thank you so much for keeping FaeriesDance.com a viable, online business. We look forward to many more years to come.
We’ve teamed up with Just Goods in South Bend, Indiana to do a “Trunk Show.” Just Goods has a temporary stock of our best selling bras for you to try on in person. If you live anywhere in the neighborhood, please stop by.
Just Goods is a brick-and-mortar store open 3 days a week. They’ll have some of our exclusive European styles on display through Thursday, July 15.
